TOEFL
The Test of English as a Foreign Language™ (TOEFL®) measures the ability of nonnative speakers of English to use and understand English as it is spoken, written, and heard in college and university settings.
Many colleges and universities in the US require or recommend providing TOEFL test scores as part of their application process for international students whose native language is not English.
The TOEFL test is administered by the American not-for-profit organization Educational Testing Service (ETS).
The TOEFL internet-based test (TOEFL iBT)
TOEFL is offered as an internet-based test. TOEFL iBT tests all four language skills that are important for effective communication: speaking, listening, reading, and writing. The test helps students demonstrate that they have the English skills needed for success.
Who needs to take the test?
You may need to take the TOEFL test if your native language is not English and
· you are applying to study at a university in the US,
· you are applying to be a teaching assistant as part of your (post)graduate program at a US university, or
· you are applying for a license to work as a doctor or nurse in the US.
Many US institutions do not require you to take the TOEFL test if:
·you hold a degree or diploma from a postsecondary institution in an English-speaking country, or
·you have successfully completed at least a two-year course of study in which English was the language of instruction.
Please check the admissions criteria of the institution(s) you wish to attend, in order to determine whether you need to take the test.
The TOEFL test is given on set dates throughout the year, although not every test center offers the test on every test date. For the most current information regarding test centers and dates, visit the TOEFL iBT online registration system on the ETS website
You can register online at the ETS website , by phone, or by mail. Registration forms cannot be faxed.
Candidates who register for the TOEFL test will receive access to a TOEFL iBT Interactive Sampler to help them become familiar with all four sections of the internet-based test (free of charge).
The ETS website also offers test-taking tips and strategies and free access to a TOEFL Practice Online community that provides practice questions and discussion boards.
ETS publishes an official TOEFL study guide—The Official Guide to the TOEFL® Test—that can be purchased online from the ETS store . Popular study guides are generally also available for purchase from major online booksellers.
For undergraduate study
ACT/SAT
SAT tests assess your academic readiness for college. There are two kinds of SAT tests: the SAT General Test and SAT Subject Tests.
The SAT measures the critical reading, writing, and mathematical abilities you will need for academic success in the US.
The SAT tests are administered by the American not-for-profit organization, the College Board. All of the information required to take the tests in Israel can be found on the College Board’s SAT website: http://sat.collegeboard.org.
SAT Subject Tests
SAT Subject Tests are hour-long, content-based tests that measure your knowledge and skills in specific subjects. There are twenty SAT Subject Tests in five general subject areas: English, history, languages, mathematics, and science. Students can take up to three SAT Subject Tests on a single test date but cannot take the general SAT and SAT Subject Tests during the same test administration.

For Graduate study
GRE
GRADUATE RECORD EXAMINATION® (GRE®) tests measure students’ knowledge and skills and can help forecast a candidate’s potential for success in graduate school. There are two kinds of GRE tests: the General Test and Subject Tests.
The GRE tests are a standardized testing program that is widely recognized for (post)graduate college admissions in the US. A General Test measures verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning, critical thinking, and analytical writing skills, and further Subject Tests gauge undergraduate achievement in specific fields of study. Most colleges and universities in the US require GRE test scores as part of their graduate application process.
The GRE Test is administered by the American not-for-profit organization Educational Testing Service (ETS). All of the information required to take the tests in Israel can be found on ETS’s GRE website: www.ets.org/gre.
GRE test scores are used by admissions or fellowship panels to supplement undergraduate records and other qualifications for post-graduate study.
If you are applying to a graduate program in the US, you will most likely have to take the GRE General Test (or GMAT, if you intend to study business or management) as part of the application process.
Some programs will ask you to take a relevant GRE Subject Test in addition to the General Test.
You can register online for the GRE at the ETS website (requires a valid credit card) or by mail.
To register by mail you need to obtain the GRE Information and Registration Bulletin, which you can download from the ETS website . The registration form must be received at ETS by the registration deadline.
Registration forms cannot be faxed.
The computer-based GRE General Test is offered on selected dates year-round. Begin the process of registering online on the ETS website to see a list of available dates and times.

GRE Subject Tests
The GRE Subject Tests gauge undergraduate achievement in seven specific fields of study. Each Subject Test is intended for students who have majored in or have an extensive background in that specific area.

For Graduate study
GMAT
The Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) is a standardized assessment that measures students’ general verbal, mathematical, and analytical writing skills.
The GMAT test is specifically designed to help graduate management programs assess the qualifications of applicants for advanced study in business and management and is often required in place of GRE test scores for relevant programs.
Over 3,000 graduate management programs from more than 1,500 schools worldwide use GMAT scores. Most graduate schools of business and management in the US require you to take the test as part of the admission process.
The GMAT test is administered by the not-for-profit organization, the Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC).
The computer-based GMAT measures basic verbal, mathematical, and analytical writing skills that you have developed over a long period of time in your education and work. The GMAT is a computer-adaptive test (CAT), which means that questions are selected based on your responses to preceding questions, adjusting to your individual ability as the test progresses.
There are no set test dates for the GMAT test, which is offered on different dates at different centers. Test dates and seat availability can be checked on the GMAT website
